Here at Upfront Theatre Foundation we provide Skills training workshops to equip unemployed youth and students with marketable skills in the areas of film production/broadcast journalism. We are committed to producing theatrical production, plan festivals; organize programs and activities that will contribute to the development of the cultural mosaic of Canada and the global culture. We explore the historic and contemporary dimensions of the African-Caribbean-Canadian experience through theatre production and audio video production. While our styles, personal histories and places of origin are diverse, we are committed to producing art that inspires others, to support intellectual discourse, educational programs, the collection and preservarion of works and the staging of African-Caribbean-Canadian works throughout Canada and the world The objectives are:

  • To set up skill training workshops to equip youth and students with marketable skills in the areas of film production, theatre production, web page design, computer graphics and journalism;
  • To produce an Internet media house in the areas of television, radio broadcasting and magazine;
  • To develop and implement social justice programs and activities in the Jane and Finch community and surrounding areas;
  • To use the arts as tools of resiliency to engage and connect children and youth through planned programs;
  • To utilize the resources in the Jane and Finch community to forward the mandate and objectives of Upfront Theatre Foundation;
  • To conduct outreach programs that will encourage adults and youth to seek post-secondary education;
  • To organize and promote cultural activities including concerts, seminars, workshops, presentations, conferences, festivals and radio drama programs that tackle issues of importance to the community;
  • To develop partnerships with community organizations, agencies, institutions and businesses to further the mandate and objectives of Upfront Theatre Foundation.

Upfront Theatre Foundation is governed by a board of directors consisting of community and youth workers, professionals and artists. The staff consists of the executive director, contractual workers and students hired during the summer through the Tropicana Summer Employment program. The Foundation operates Upfront Studio Theatre located in the Keele and Finch area. The activities are as follows:
